Takehito Miyatake: What is the image about? The image is displaying the raw beauty of a an active volcano. What do you like about the image? The image is simply astounding, to the point where I questioned if it was even real. I've never seen lightning strike an active volcano, and imagine it is exceedingly rare to capture. List at least one element of art and one principle of design used in the image. One element of art used is color; a contrast between the blue lightning and the molten red lava. A principle of design used is emphasis, where the center where the collision between lightning and the mountain is occurring, and the rest of the image is comparatively less emphasized. List one interesting fact you discovered about the photographer. Miyatake has been trying to capture mysterious lights of landscapes like volcanoes and fireflies for over 3 decades. Kwasi Boyd Bouldin: What is the image about? This image is showing a typical retro city sidewalk, with fences and a building....

Joe Cornish Tips: Blog Post

 1. Spend time with the subject, and observe it from all angles. This way you learn more about it, and are able to truly capture the subject in the most thought-provoking manner. I could do this by photographing my subject from various different angles to find unique perspectives I probably wouldn't discover otherwise. 2. If the sun is out too strong, there will be too much contrast for the camera to capture. Because of this reality, I think it would ideal to photograph in areas that are partially sunny. Overcast days might be perfect for fostering this environment, or it may be as simple as finding the shade of a few trees.

Cinemagraph Project

Image
  1. What was your overall concept and did you succeed in crafting the cinemagraph the way you intended? The overall concept was to create a cinemagraph of a water fountain loop, and we succeeded in crafting it. 2. What do you like about your project? I like the overall aesthetic with the static shoe and the scene not appearing overly cluttered. 3. What would you have done differently when creating your cinemagraph? I probably would've tried to get my pants out of the frame and just have my shoe in it, so that the shot looks a bit cleaner and more minimalistic. 4. What would have made this project easier to understand or create? I think the most difficult hurdle in this project was just deciding what would make a good cinemagraph, and actually filming it effectively. The video with the step-by-step walkthrough made turning the clip into a cinemagraph not too difficult. 4. What would have made this project easier to understand or create?
